PEOPLE FIRST OF TOLEDO
Mission
To learn to advocate for ourselves and to learn to let
people know what we need in order to do the things
we want to do. We need to let them know how they
can help us. Also to realize we have responsibilities
to give back to society and contribute all we can to it.
People first began in Ohio in 1998 by a group of self-advocates who wanted to improve their abilities to represent themselves and to train others to be self-advocates. Members are teen through adults. There are many chapters throughout Ohio, including a statewide organization.
People First of Toledo meetings are held on the third Thursday of the month at the Ability Center, 5605 Monroe St., Sylvania, Ohio from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM. Local Chapter Members work for better public transportation, curb cuts, parks with adaptive equipment, and making buildings accessible. Members also do service projects, volunteer in the community, and discuss disability issues at community meetings
Become a member today! For only $2.00 per person a year you can become a member and receive voting privileges at People First meetings, membership pin and learn how you can break away from being told what to do and work toward making your own choices about your life.
