Programs
Teens and young adults learn life skills to help them transition to adult life. and they learn and improve their communication and social skills.
Three sessions are offered during the calendar year:
Relationships and Sexuality
(Winter - 12 consecutive Tuesdays, 5:30-8:30 pm)
This popular program was started in 2009 in response to requests for help from parents. The curriculum is based on Family Life & Sexual Health Program (F.L.A.S.H.), Seattle Public Schools.
Topics covered include:
· Safe relationships and dating
· Learning how to act
· Privacy and sexual health
· There is a safe environment for open discussions
· 2- 3 information sessions for parents are offered throughout the 12 week program
Out & About
(Spring - 8 consecutive Tuesdays, 6:30-8:30 pm)
This life skills program is about survival skills in the community. The group meets at a different local restaurant each week.
· Participants learn and practice:
· How to act out in public
· How to get along with other people
· Conversation do’s and don’ts.
The curriculum is based on “Let’s Talk About Life Skills”, PCI Educational Publishing.
Making the Most of Your Money
(Fall – 8 consecutive Tuesdays, 6:30-8:30 pm)
Taking care of yourself means a lot of things. You have to eat well. Get some regular exercise. And make good choices about how you spend your time and money. Everybody struggles with questions about how to handle their money.
This 8-week program will help young adults understand living expenses - what’s really
important and what isn’t so important to have in your life, and how to handle your money.
They learn about:
· What you should do with the money you have
· Paying bills
· Banks, checking accounts and debit cards
· Spending traps – like catalogs and Internet shopping
Curriculum is based on “Make the Most of Your Money”, The Arc, 2001.

A group of self-advocates who wanted to improve their abilities to represent themselves and to train others to be self-advocates. Members are teen through adults.
This program helps teens and young adults prepare for getting a job.
· Each participant learns what his/her individual qualities and strengths are that would make him/her a good employee and how to talk about them in a job interview.
· Each participant develops a personal information profile that serves as the basis for job applications and a resume.
· Role-play and practice job interviews give each participant a chance to learn good communication skills when meeting someone for the first time.
· Everyone is given the chance to practice and learn what it feels like to be interviewed for a job.
· Local business owners and employers come and talk about what they look for in a good employee.
· One parent workshop is offered to help parents understand and reinforce what their sons and daughters are learning.
Curriculum is based on “Getting Ready for the Job World”, a video-based curriculum for teens on finding, getting and keeping a job.
