IEP Mentor Services
Purpose
Assist families to secure appropriate special education services through the
Individual Education Program (IEP) for their children with developmental disabilities.
Facilitate collaboration among families, educators and other professionals.
Help parents to be more active participants in the IEP process which includes
visioning goal-setting and outcomes.
Provide support for IEP meetings and conference reviews.
Provide assistance to families and school districts regarding collective issues
to implement positive educational outcomes for students with special needs.
Team Work
IEP Advocates make a time commitment that allows them to adequately serve
the families assigned to them and attend monthly training and discussion sessions.
Advocates work with families referred to the IEP Team by local agencies, organizations
and individuals.
The IEP Team Advisory Council holds regular meetings to advise and monitor
outcomes.

IEP Advocates are trained parents of individuals with developmental disabilities
and disability-related professionals dedicated to the support of families through
education advocacy.
